The names Sagittarius Excalibur and Maxmillion Fantastic came from a really late-night conversation I had when I was 13 or so. I was talking to a friend, Matthew Cook, in the middle of the night and we were coming up with the silliest names we could for horses. Sagittarius Excalibur and Maxmillion Fantastic stuck with me for the next decade or so until I got my first animal in college, that was Maxmillion. Later, Sagittarius Excalibur was added to my family and (in a most unferretlike manner) became instantly good friends with Maxmillion.
Sagittarius Excalibur is a real troublemaker. She is extremely intelligent, even compared to other ferrets. Back in college I had a good friend who would bring her ferrets over to play, and Sagittarius and her sister Nina would organize raids and other trouble. Back in '92 or so I had a running battle with Sagittarius to keep her off my bed, I would block an entrance off and she'd figure out a new way up there. I finally gave up when she had no routes left, so she pulled a box over to use as a step. As I said, she's a smart one.
Sad update (1997):
Unfortunately I've also lost Sagittarius.
Sadly she died from the same ailment that her best friend died from a few
years before. I'll miss them both terribly.
